At a special ceremony on Wednesday, Bayou District Foundation and Educare New Orleans officially dedicated the Emeril Lagasse Foundation School Kitchen in the Educare Early Education Center.
A beneficiary of the Foundation since 2015, Bayou District Foundation is a community redevelopment leader that is focused on revitalizing the Gentilly neighborhood in New Orleans and allows increased access to affordable home ownership in the area.
Bayou District Foundation’s nationally-recognized education partner, Educare New Orleans, aims to give bright futures to low-income youth by effectively providing children up to the age of five with valuable early education.
A crucial resource for low-income families, more than 90 percent of Educare students meet or exceed kindergarten readiness standards. In support of the Foundation’s mission to create opportunities to inspire, mentor and enable youth to reach their fullest potential, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation School Kitchen offers fundamental nutrition and cooking skills and provides important learning opportunities for food-insecure children.
In partnership with the Louisiana Hospitality Foundation, The Educare Emeril Lagasse Foundation School Kitchen is also the host site of a dinner series where students and their families come together to learn the fundamentals of cooking cost-effective delicious and nutritious meals from top New Orleans chefs.
"The Educare Emeril Lagasse Foundation School Kitchen is truly a place of family, community and healthy lifestyles, “said Brian Kish, president of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation. “We are proud to support this incredible program and are excited to see the wealth of education that this kitchen provides youth in our community.”.
The Emeril Lagasse Foundation is proud to support the organizations in our community who are making a difference in the lives of youth in New Orleans and beyond. Learn how you can donate or support the Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s mission by visiting our Get Involved page.
