“Because every student deserves a great education.” - The Rethinkers

Rethink’s Summer and After School Clubs

In June 2006, twenty middle school children entered Kids Rethink New Orleans Schools six-week summer program. Students from different schools and backgrounds participated and began calling themselves Rethinkers. The students have continued working together throughout the school years and summers to make sure that student voices are at the forefront of rebuilding the New Orleans public school system.

ELF has supported Rethink’s programs by providing financial grants to help operate the clubs. The students meet and work with education experts, artists and architects to learn about each issue they’ve chosen. Their momentus recommendations for improving school food and cafeteria culture especially resonates with our foundation’s mission. School officials and the media pay close attention to the valuable work of these bright young people, and many of their recommendations have been implemented.
