As 2015 comes to a close, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation would like to spotlight one of our generous sponsors and winemakers who played a key role in the success of this year’s Boudin, Bourbon & Beer and Carnivale du Vin.
President and CEO of Silver Oak Cellars, David R. Duncan served as this year’s Honorary Bacchus at Carnivale du Vin. Duncan generously sponsored the Bacchus Reception, which featured a variety of Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars’ best wines accompanied by tastings from guest chefs José Andrés, Kristen Kish and Art Smith.
In addition to his role at Carnivale du Vin, Duncan is a member of the Silverado Pickups, the country-swooning band that kicked-off this year’s Boudin, Bourbon & Beer. Made up entirely of some of Napa Valley’s most esteemed vintners and industry professionals, Duncan says the band got its start with just a few friends gathering over a shared interest in wine and music.
“We started getting together to play some music and drink some wine, and as we started to perform more, people thought we were ok,” said Duncan. “That led to us warming up for Tim McGraw, which is when we officially named the band.
From winemaking to performing at this year’s sold-out Boudin, Bourbon & Beer, Duncan attributes the Foundation’s overall mission of helping youth succeed as the reason he enjoys being involved with the organization’s annual fundraising events.
I’m inspired by how Emeril creates events that give back,” said Duncan. “He teaches at-risk youth to cook and gives them incredible tools to succeed, and he also builds fundraisers and programs that are too good not to participate in every year.
In addition to his support of the Foundation and positive impact on children’s charities in New Orleans, Duncan and his wife, Kary, dedicate significant time giving back to other charities and organizations within their own community in Napa Valley.
“Kary and I co-chaired Action Napa Valley in 2014, which ended up being the largest charity wine auction in history,” said Duncan. “We also dedicate substantial time to our local health care centers and children’s schools. Supporting education is very much a core mission for my family and for the Napa Valley vintners.”
The benevolence shown by Duncan and so many others is instrumental in helping the Foundation achieve our mission of inspiring, mentoring and enabling young people to realize their full potential. Learn more about how you can get involved and support causes making a difference here.
