Emeril Lagasse Foundation recently received the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ 2016 Force for Good Award for Nonprofit of the Year. The Force for Good Award is granted annually and recognizes outstanding organizations and leaders in the Louisiana nonprofit community.
Headquartered in New Orleans, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation exemplifies the award’s purpose by adhering to its mission of creating opportunities to inspire, mentor and enable youth through culinary, nutrition and arts education with a focus on life skills development.
For nearly 15 years, the Foundation has provided financial support to nonprofit organizations that provide youth education and enrichment opportunities in the areas of nutrition and culinary education, life skills development, childhood hunger and arts education. Some of the Foundation’s beneficiaries include New Orleans-based St. Michael’s Special School, Edible Schoolyard NOLA and New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts.
With the support of a full-time dedicated staff and a national board, the Foundation has distributed over $7 million, to children’s organizations and has successfully funded seven teaching kitchens and five culinary gardens.
“We are honored to accept this award for nonprofit of the year,” said Brian Kish, president of Emeril Lagasse Foundation. “Chef Emeril’s dedication to making a difference in the lives of our youth is demonstrated by the impact we’re making in New Orleans and across the Gulf Coast, helping thousands of youth annually and supporting an entire community of other inspirational organizations.
