Emeril Lagasse Foundation Legacy Giving
Leaving a Legacy
Remembering the Emeril Lagasse Foundation in your estate planning can be both simple and meaningful. Gifts made through an estate do not need to be complicated or require great wealth. It only takes the confidence, faith, and belief that the Emeril Lagasse Foundation is making a difference in the lives of thousands of youth every single day.
There are many ways to make a charitable estate gift to the Foundation. Some gifts provide life income for the donor or their loved ones, while others utilize tax efficient assets; whatever the vehicle chosen, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation can benefit from these assets and ensure that they are helping to mentor, inspire, and enable youth to reach their fullest potential.
A few short phrases added to your living trust, will or beneficiary designation can make an enormous difference in young people’s lives. You may bequeath a specific asset, a dollar amount, or a percentage of your estate to the work of the Foundation. The following is sample language that can be used:
“I give, devise, bequeath (specific dollar amount, asset, or percentage of estate) to the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, a charitable organization in New Orleans, Louisiana, to be used for the most pressing needs as determined by the Board of Directors.”
Assets you can use to make a charitable estate gift include:
- Stocks, bonds, mutual funds
- Life insurance policies
- Retirement plans assets and/or IRAs
Gifts that Give Back to the Donor
There are a variety of mutually beneficial arrangements that can provide you direct financial benefit, including: lifetime income, capital gains tax savings, income tax deductibility, and state tax savings. These types of gifts require a bit more technical assistance. It is recommended that you work with both the Foundation and a trusted professional advisor in order to assure both the technical merits of the transfer and the philanthropic quality of the gift.

Emeril Lagasse Foundation Endowment
A long-term commitment to a brighter future
In 2015, the Emeril Lagasse Foundation established an endowment fund as an investment in both today and in the future. A strong endowment allows the Foundation to:
- Be fiscally prepared and responsible for fluctuations in the economy;
- Support both current projects and incubate new initiatives;
- Build upon the confidence of other funders in the long-term stability of the organization;
- And, ensure greater reach and impact on the youth served.
All gifts to the endowment are collectively pooled and invested under the management of the Finance Committee. A portion of the annual returns are utilized to fund the grant-making and operations of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation. The remainder of returns are reinvested in the principal allowing the fund to grow and expand.
Donors to the endowment are visionaries
A gift to the endowment has lasting influence on the success of the organization. Donors to this initiative are big thinkers who understand that success breeds success. Gifts to this fund allow the Emeril Lagasse Foundation to grow beyond where it is today and positively touch the lives of young people for years to come.
Unlike other commitments to the Foundation, many choose to make 5-10 year pledges. By spreading the gift over several years, donors often can make more meaningful and frequent contributions.
