Rooted in Purpose: The Libermans and the Aarón Sánchez Impact Fund
Sometimes, the most meaningful relationships are born from unexpected moments. For Jeff and Angela Liberman, their connection to the Aarón Sánchez Impact Fund – a program of Emeril Lagasse Foundation – started with a chance encounter, and grew into something deeply personal.
Several years ago, the Libermans attended Carnivale du Vin, Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s signature fundraising event in New Orleans. Seated at the same table as Chef Aarón Sánchez, they discovered a shared passion for family, culture, and a desire to make a tangible difference.
That moment marked the beginning of a relationship grounded in shared values and fueled by a desire to uplift others.
With roots in a small Mexican town and a family of agricultural workers, Angela felt profoundly connected to the purpose of the Impact Fund.
“There’s no nine-to-five,” she said. “It’s year-round. You develop a deep appreciation for that kind of dedication.”
Her father’s work as a ranch supervisor in California only deepened her respect for those who labor behind the scenes to feed and serve others.
Jeff, whose career in Spanish-language media built strong ties to Latino communities across the U.S., saw an opportunity to contribute in a more direct way. In addition to offering philanthropic support, the Libermans became active participants – using their media network to share public service announcements about the Impact Fund, raising awareness and encouraging young people to apply for scholarships.
Their involvement didn’t stop there. Jeff and Angela joined the program’s scholarship selection committee, personally reviewing applications and helping identify promising young candidates.
“We were able to meet some of the students, hear their stories, and see how impactful the scholarships are,” Jeff shared.
One scholarship recipient, whom they met in 2024 at a small brunch following Carnivale du Vin, made a lasting impression. His story – marked by hardship, gratitude and newfound hope – reminded them why this work matters. “He was so kind, so appreciative, and so full of hope for the future,” Angela recalled.
For the Libermans, the draw to the Aarón Sánchez Impact Fund goes beyond its emphasis on culinary and hospitality education for Latino youth – it’s about how the program prepares young people from all backgrounds for life. “It’s not just about cooking,” Angela said. “They’re learning real-world skills they can take into so many careers.”
Their connection has deepened over time, guided by a heartfelt desire to give back. “You get to actually see where your support is going,” Angela said. “Hearing the student’s stories, meeting them in person—it makes it very real. Their journey is a testament to the meaningful connections that grow when people give with open hearts.”
