Donor Spotlight: Dr. Michele Cooper and Dr. Scott Sullivan

As the excitement builds for the upcoming Carnivale du Vin, we had the opportunity to sit down with two of its most dedicated supporters and annual attendees, Dr. Michele Cooper and Dr. Scott Sullivan, to learn more about the passion that drives their ongoing commitment to Emeril Lagasse Foundation.

Dr. Cooper, a Baltimore native, was deeply moved by the Foundation’s strong commitment to the city, particularly in the wake of significant challenges like Hurricane Katrina and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reflecting on that time post levee failures, she shared how the Foundation’s dedication to rebuilding New Orleans and helping its residents during such difficult times inspired her and Dr. Sullivan to become more involved in their charitable efforts.

“The way the Foundation has remained loyal to New Orleans, ensuring that resources directly benefit the community, has been a guiding example for us.”

Dr. Sullivan is the co-founder of the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery and St. Charles Surgical Hospital, the only hospital in the world dedicated to breast reconstruction for women seeking the most advanced surgical options. He recounted how the Foundation’s work influenced their actions following Hurricane Katrina.

“We had just started construction on our hospital a few months after Katrina hit. Like many others in the area, we were devastated by the results. All of our employees lost their homes due to the flooding. We made it our mission to assist them by finding housing and keeping them fully employed,” Dr. Sullivan explained. “When we finally completed construction and opened in February 2007, we invited Chef Emeril to participate in our grand opening, and he graciously agreed. The support of the Foundation, with its commitment to excellence and community, is something we deeply admire and strive to emulate in our endeavors.”

For Dr. Cooper and Dr. Sullivan, Emeril Lagasse Foundation represents more than just philanthropy; it’s about creating transformative opportunities for young people.

“Learning about the nonprofits who benefit from Carnivale du Vin, especially those highlighting the Foundation’s culinary and other youth-focused initiatives, is always a powerful moment for us,” Dr. Sullivan noted.

“Seeing firsthand how these programs change the lives of young people resonates with us deeply. We believe one of the most valuable things we can do is help our youth achieve their goals, particularly through education and life skills training.”

Their passion for supporting education extends beyond their involvement with the Foundation. Dr. Cooper and Dr. Sullivan have also established scholarships and financial commitments to their alma maters, Towson University and Tulane University. They believe investing in  the next generation through education is one of the most impactful ways to give back.

Dr. Cooper and Dr. Sullivan’s dedication to Foundation and its mission is a testament to the profound impact committed supporters can have on their communities. Their story is a shining example of how the passion behind Emeril Lagasse Foundation inspires individuals to make lasting contributions that empower the next generation.
